Question: Does anyone remember anyone talking about Uncle Neil? Does anyone remember any pictures of him in Moms & Dad's home? I only remember hearing his name in whispers. Like at a family get together. Maybe Helen & Louise & my Mom would be talking and when I came around the corner the voices dropped and the talking stopped. I don't remember how old I was when my Mother told me about Uncle Neil. I thought it was odd that it was so hush-hush and I did think it was strange that there were no pictures of him. Did anyone else feel that way?

Here's a real challenge. Who can ID anyone? Who can time stamp the photo? Where was it taken? Remember, your relatives are in this photo!

Here's an interesting photo of the whole Hathaway clan in the patio at 714 S Windsor. The south wall can be seen at the left. Bill was born 02/02/1930, and Neil died 06/29/1933, so I guess this photo was taken in 1932. Who can identify the collie?

What can you tell me about this photo?

Is anyone familiar with this photo? I recognize Louse, Helen and Fred Hathaway, but I'm only guessing the little guy on the left with the impish grin is Maynard. Am I right? How about the other two children? Where was this taken and when?

USC v. UCLA , November 1964

Maynard, Betty Jean, Louise, Clarie and Bobbie Paulin, and Mac, of course, taking the photos --all dressed up! Hard to imagine, given this day of painted faces and team attire! Were Thanksgiving and Christmas all that formal, or just a step up from everyday attire? You tell me! USC beat UCLA 34 to 13 that year --I'm sure Mac, the UCLA grad, had to pick up the tab for dinner that night!

For me some of the words are about my clenched jaw and the anxiety for the next moment I was feeling all over when the clench was on; some are about each of the others in the shot: how could I have missed knowing someone as interesting as Bill? Is that Doug or John? --looks so much like Doug but must be John. Is that Barb peeping? Why peeping? Mick looks the same as he did the last time I saw him, only about 15 years ago! It was perfectly normal to get way dressed up several times a year and hang out with all my relatives then, yet I never do anything like it now -- or since--except that I have just started doing it with my children and grandchildren! Hmmmm! And what is Louise thinking? I'll bet her kids could suggest an answer. Or could they? I now wonder if I really knew what my mother was thinking. And so forth . . . .

And when was this? How about 1957? I know where it was!

These are just a couple of pictures that I found in a trunk. I am probably as surprised as you are that my Father was a 'dancer'. No one ever talked about this to me. So many things from my parents lives, pre - me were not talked about. I love the 2 pictures of my Mother. She was so pretty when she was a young woman. I always thought she was beautiful - after all she was my Mom. The picture with the tear in it - I had never seen that picture before but I was told that one summer my Dad went to Mexico City. He went to speak to some gentleman who was a member of the U. S. State Dept. My Dad was thinking about a career with the Diplomatic Corps. The picture of my Dad as a little guy was taken in Salt Lake City where he was born. I know that the family moved to Los Angeles when my Dad was 3 so I imagine he was 3 'ish in that photo.

I'll keep going through the trunk and I'll post more pictures when I find some good ones.

When was this photo taken? Bill looks about 3 or 4, so when was he born? But also, the steps look like they are going to the aviary and I thought there were steps from the squeeky gate by the garage to the patio gate?! Is the photo flipped? I wouldn't think so because I think I see the screened/tarped opening of the sleeping porch? And how about the grass: did you ever see it so long?!
